Nutrition & Fitness

Students will be able to properly label the new food guide pyramid and state the daily servings needed to eat a healthy diet.
Students will list the seven dietary guidelines and create a visual representation of these guidelines to be hung in the classroom.
Students will increase their cardiovascular endurance by walking 2.8 miles twice a week.

Monday: 2.8 mile walk (bring in a food label for tomorrow's activity)
Tuesday: Finish Dietary Guideline chain, reading food labels
Wednesday: Food guide pyramid
Thursday: Pyramid magazine collage
Friday: 2.8 mile walk

Ed Careers

Students will list several activities that they can use in their classrooms in order to enhance their experience.
Students will increase their understanding about the career of education by interning in an elementary classroom.

Wednesday: How can I help in the classroom? ("First impressions" due today)

Teaching Academy

Students will evaluate a current event in school education and discuss its impact on future teachers.
Students will recognize the various abilities of their future student population and accomodations that go along with the varying ability levels.
Students will compare the notes they take on special education to the accomodations provided in the movie, Educating Peter.

Monday: Bring in portfolio for workshop, Ed in the News

Week 4: 9/21 - 9/25

Students will define the term "wellness" and evaluate their personal level of wellness
Students will list the seven dietary guidelines and create a visual representation of these guidelines to be hung in the classroom.
Students will increase their cardiovascular endurance by walking 2.8 miles twice a week.

Wednesday: Dietary Guidelines PP
Thursday: Finish PP, create Dietary Guideline chain (we will finish this on Tuesday)

Ed Careers

Students will discuss their inital impressions of the grade level and students that they will be working with throughout the semester.
Students will compare and contrast their initial impression with how they feel after one week of interning.
Students will increase their understanding about the career of education by interning in an elementary classroom.

Teaching Academy

Students will become familiar with the crisis in schools that is happening in America.
Students will create a timeline of major educational/historical events that have happened in this country.
Students will discuss how they are impacted by educational reform efforts.

Monday: Ed Reform notes, assign historical timeline (due Thursday)
Tuesday: Watch "Schools in Crisis" with Oprah & Bill Gates
Wednesday: Continue watching "Schools in Crisis"
Thursday: Trip to Scrapbooks etc to get portfolio ideas--make sure all permission slips are turned in!!
Friday: Finish video, class discussion, reflection (due Monday)

Week 3: 9/14-9/18

Nutrition & Fitness

Students will define the term "wellness" and evaluate their personal level of wellness
Students will create a diagram using the three areas of wellness: social, physical and mental.
Students will increase their cardiovascular endurance by walking 2.8 miles twice a week.

Monday: 2.8 mile walk
Tuesday: Wellness notes, wellness Venn diagram
Wednesday: 1/2 day--FAIR DAY!
Thursday: Finish Venn diagram, share with class
Friday: 2.8 mile walk

Ed Careers

Students will write a letter to their mentor teacher introducing themselves and thanking them for the opportunity to intern in their classroom.
Students will increase their understanding about the career of education by interning in an elementary classroom.

Monday: Mr. Harrison-guest speaker about administrator expectations, type letter to mentor
Tuesday: Scavenger hunt at elementary schools (must have all paperwork completed)
Wednesday: 1/2 day--FAIR DAY!

Students will develop an awareness of education reform and its impact on teaching and learning.
Students will discuss how legislation impacts a teacher's job.

Monday: Create horn books, read code of conduct, take notes on the history of education
Tuesday: Finish hornbooks, innovators in education
Wednesday: No class--FAIR DAY!
Thursday: Schools: Then and Now (type in computer lab)
Friday: Education reform notes, create mind-map as homework over the weekend

Week 2: 9/8-9/11

Students will evaluate their personal stress level and discover how stress relates to their overall health and well being.
Students will identify ways to combat stress and effectively cope with tension.
Students will increase their cardiovascular endurance by walking 2.8 miles twice a week.

Wednesday: Stress PowerPoint & notes
Thursday: Stress collage

Ed Careers

Students will explain appropriate protocols while working at the elementary schools.
Students will construct a list of 100 ways to show students you care.

Tuesday: Share "Amazing Mentor" and discuss internship protocol
Wednesday: What to Wear
Thursday: 100 ways to care
Friday: Sexual harrassment and school safety laws


Teaching Academy

Students will construct a head that divides each of the multiple intelligences according to their quiz results.
Students will find different activities to use with students that teach to the different intelligences
Students will discover their brain dominance and share experiences that have affected their performance in education as a result of their dominance.
